Normandy Food Tour 2023

Ireland and Normandy share strong historical links, and relations have been enriched recently. The Normandy Tourist Board wanted to take this special relationship a step further and has decided to pay our closest EU neighbours a friendly visit. We toured Ireland from 3 to 5 June to bring a taste of Normandy to three towns and cities with which we have forged strong ties!

A friendly invasion of the foodie kind worked its way across Ireland early June 2023. The Normandy Food Tour saw the best food, drink and music from one of France’s most delicious destinations travel through Dublin, Waterford and New Ross. Landing at The Digital Hub (Thomas St) in Dublin on 3rd June; Cathedral Square in Waterford on 4th June; and the Dunbrody Ship Experience area in New Ross on bank holiday Monday 5th June, the tour was a celebration of the towns’ shared historic significance with Normandy along with an occasion to enjoy the region’s food and drink with live music and family-fun activities.

A true taste of Normandy

A demo stage saw a schedule of fabulous Normandy chefs, cook up traditional and innovative cuisine including ‘Escalope à la Normande’ and Teurgoule rice pudding. Totally-free-to-attend Masterclasses hold throughout the day sampling some of Normandy’s best exports. Families came for a Normandy Sweet Treats Tasting, tucking into Cara-Meuh, La Maison Du Biscuit cakes, Jeannette Madeleines, Caramel De Pommes Dieppois and more. More of a cheese friend? We’ve got you covered with a cheese tasting ticking off the classics like Camembert, Neufchatel and Isigny Mimolette, crowned best cheese in the world this year! Our lucky visitors had a chance to taste the calvados from the Chateau du Breuil and the Busnel distillery.

Normandy food trucks served up tasty sweet and savoury dishes for hungry punters. Chez l’Couz marries the finest Normandy beef with creamy camembert and Neufchâtel cheese served up in a soft bun. Grignot’Malin served up traditional French crêpes filled with cheese and more. And who can resist dessert, especially when it’s Caravanille preparing delicious fresh brioches topped with Normandy delicacies.

On every leg of the tour around 5pm, “For the Hackers” band, perfomed for the very first time in Ireland! Hailing from Dieppe, Normandy, these indie-rockers have been active for about a decade now, and have numerous hits to their name. Their blend of pop, rock and electro with French lyrics is guaranteed to impress. These music devils have the capacity to move the audience emotionally, and physically! Their live shows are powerful, engaging, and their chemistry as a band is very visible. A truly unmissable act, especially as “For the Hackers” play on top of their solar-powered bus!

– The quay near the Dunbrody Ship, New Ross, June 5th from 11 am to 6pm
